Queer Ancestors Project Resists!
This workshop is for transgender, non-binary, lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer, questioning, two-spirit, and intersex people, aged 18 to 26, who are interested in creating prints exploring resistance. We’ll spend 15 weeks together studying linocut printmaking and resistance-oriented images, and supporting one another as we create. The workshop is free and supplies are included, but space is limited. No experience is required. Each participant who completes the workshop will receive a $1000 stipend.
What does the world feel like to you? What’s got to change so you and those you love can bloom? Who are your ancestors and how do they move in you? We’ll gather, explore these questions, and create images that envision the way to a world with justice, peace, and joy. You’ll learn to make linocut prints addressing whatever issues are compelling to you – such as prison abolition, Trans rights, white supremacy, climate change, student debt, poverty, immigration, reproductive justice, healthcare, homelessness – let’s not forget pleasure! – and more. In keeping with QAP's larger mission, you'll be invited to make one print honoring social justice activism from the past that inspires you. Our workshop will culminate in a public printmaking party at SOMArts, where you’ll print your images on t-shirts!
Chrysalis Studio Director Katie Gilmartin (she/they) will teach the workshop, along with guest speakers.
